2009 - 2015

The intranet site was originally built on a SharePoint 2007 platform, and as technology and requirements advanced through its success, it was eventually migrated to a SharePoint 2013 environment.

As part of my User Experience Design degree, I took it upon myself to perform user testing in order to gain insight to how current users were using it, what could be done to improve its use, but also find ways of encouraging non-users, especially within the army, to start using it for gaining the knowledge they require.

First, the task was to create persona’s to identify the types of users likely to use the site followed by interviews with 5 different users focusing on how they felt using the site, and locating ‘pain points’ within the usage process. This was followed by a card sorting exercise to identify what content was best displayed on the front page of the site.

As a result of this coursework, the design and some of its functionality has now been incorporated into the official AKX site on a SharePoint 2013 platform.
